Are there tomatoes in an authentic Cajun jambalaya?

Rojas asked:

Someone said that whether or not there are tomatoes in the jambalaya determines whether it's Cajun or Creole. Which is which?

I am born and raised in Southern Louisiana, way down in Cajun country, and until about 20 years ago, every jambalaya I ever ate had a tomato base. My grandfather made the best I've eaten yet.

And actually, the "brown" jambalaya has always been known to me as an Opelousas jambalaya - made primarily in the Northern Louisiana region.

i'm from central louisiana where we cook an "authentic" cajun jambalaya and no we do not use tomato. that would be considered creole if you use the tomato.
