What is your favorite New Orleans bakery for the best king cake ever?
I'm a girl. asked:
i live in new orleans, but have only been here for a year. i want to bring some of my California friends king cakes because i will be spending mardi gras with them instead of in new orleans.
i've heard gambino's and randazzo's are ranked pretty high, and i agree they're great, but what else is out there? i really want them to try the ideal king cake, whatever that may be.
thanks!

OMG ~ There was an article in our local paper today about the King Cake and little plastic or ceramic baby hidden inside the cake???! I had NEVER heard of this – don't know why??!! But now I'm fascinated by it!

Well I live on the north shore, and we don't have very good bakeries, so the king cakes they make aren't very good. But the best king cake I've ever had I got from Rouses, they make them fresh every day and they will ship them anywhere in the US
The Chinese Fu king cake is the best!
