The fancy name given to this risotto, fra diavolo, is a bow to its seasonings of garlic, tomatoes, oregano and hot red-pepper flakes. These ingredients are common to lobster fra diavolo, a wonderful old-fashioned Italian-American recipe whose origins are murky. Today, shrimp is often used in place of lobster because it is less expensive. But the seasonings are good with any seafood.

We just finished shopping for the last bits for our costume for our favorite Mardi Gras parade- the Krewe of Barkus- which rolls tomorrow afternoon in the French Quarter.  The little one is going as Scooby Doo and we're dressing up as Fred and Daphne.

So, does anyone have a good king cake recipe to share?  A reader asks:

i want to make a king cake but i want an easy recipe, is it possible for me to use a bread machine to make the dough then continue to make the king cake by baking it does ne one have a recipe for doing it that way ? please help im stuck in the north and missing mardi gras, and have to have my traditional king cake !!
